Experienced Cartographer and Survey Engineer for the GIS Unit
Lerum Municipality is known for its scenic locations with lakes and forests. The municipality has 3,200 employees and 43,000 residents but expects to grow significantly in the coming years. Lerum is only a 20-minute commute from Gothenburg and is currently in a development-intensive period with many exciting projects underway, ranging from schools to housing. The municipality works to ensure good service, high welfare, and a thriving business climate.
Recently, Dagens Samhälle awarded Lerum the title of winner in the category of metropolitan municipalities (2025) - an award based on a comprehensive comparison of 290 Swedish municipalities in areas such as education, healthcare, economy, culture and leisure, attractiveness, business, and future factors like digitalization and civil preparedness. We are now a Super Municipality!
We are now looking for an experienced cartographer and survey engineer for the GIS unit.
The GIS unit manages and develops the municipality's common GIS systems and supports all municipal operations. We work as a team and leverage our diverse competencies to drive development forward. Our ambition is to increase the use of geographic information for smarter working methods, better decisions, and greater benefits for both operations and residents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As an experienced cartographer and survey engineer in the GIS unit, you will be responsible for the entire process from receiving and managing orders, conducting field measurements, to finalizing documentation and invoicing assignments. You will provide construction maps for building permits, base maps as a basis for detailed plans, conduct setting out and position checks as part of the building permit process, as well as corrections of property boundaries and updating boundary quality for construction maps through the DRK agreement and various measurement assignments. You will map and maintain Lerum Municipality's primary map, which is done using the software Espa City.
The assignment consists of approximately 60% fieldwork and about 40% office work. The tasks are varied in both difficulty and character and are mostly performed independently. You will have access to equipment such as total stations, GPS, and a vehicle. Since the work sometimes involves tasks with short notice, it is important that you appreciate a varied workday.
QUALIFICATIONS
- You have a university degree as a survey engineer, land surveying engineer, or another equivalent education that the employer deems relevant. You have at least five years of experience in the field.
- You can independently conduct measurements with total stations and GPS/GNSS and perform necessary transformations, calculations, and interpretations of the measured results. You have good knowledge in processing measurement data and map production.
- You have an interest and ability to work with and develop modern measuring technology, including the use of GPS/GNSS and various GIS tools.
- You have experience in stereo mapping. It is advantageous if you have worked with ESPA City.
- You have experience in performing leveling measurements, for example, in connection with settlement measurements or similar assignments.
- You express yourself well and master the Swedish language in speech and writing as the role involves a lot of communication with the public.
- A valid driver's license (B) is required for the position for a manual transmission vehicle.
If you have experience with similar tasks in municipal operations and good knowledge of FME, ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and Geosecma, as well as knowledge in geodesy, we consider this an advantage.
To succeed in the role, you are self-driven and structured, planning, organizing, and prioritizing your work effectively. You are service-oriented and able to adapt to changing circumstances. It is important that you have a strong interest in cartography, and the tasks require a good ability to visualize in 3D.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
